What a weekend for #TeamBRACE! On Sunday 4th October, our incredible runners took on both the Manchester Half Marathon and Cardiff Half Marathon, raising a fantastic £24,967 for dementia research between them.

In Manchester, our runners raised an amazing £12,037, including £1,698 in Gift Aid.

Meanwhile, over in Cardiff, our #TeamBRACE runners raised an incredible £12,930, including £2,351 in Gift Aid.

A huge congratulations to everyone who took on the 13.1-mile challenge. Your determination and generosity will help us continue funding research into dementia and work towards better treatments, earlier diagnosis and, one day, a cure.

From all of us at BRACE, thank you to every runner and supporter who helped make this such a fantastic weekend. Your fundraising really does make a difference to dementia research.

Abi Ringer - Manchester Half:

"I wanted to run the Manchester Half Marathon and raise money for BRACE because dementia is something close to myself and my family.

Discovering BRACE came at the perfect time. Their purpose resonated with me on a much deeper, more personal level, and I felt motivated to also make a difference. After reading more about BRACE, I was even more inspired when I saw they were a much smaller charity and the help from the wider community is what helps them achieve the work they do. Knowing that every donation can contribute directly to research hours for PhD students made supporting BRACE even more important to me. Through my fundraising, I was proud to raise enough to fund 38 hours of research for PhD students, helping contribute to the fight against dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Running the Manchester Half Marathon was an unforgettable experience for me. Despite the challenges of training, crossing the finish line gave me an incredible sense of achievement, knowing I had pushed myself and also helped make a difference to a cause that matters so much. The amazing support and fantastic atmosphere on the day made it even more special. And the continued support from BRACE themselves up until race day was truly powerful.

This is only the beginning of my running journey, with many more half marathons to come. I would love to return to fundraising for BRACE in the future and continue supporting their incredible work."

Adam Sellick - Cardiff Half

"I chose BRACE as it was a charity I really wanted to contribute towards. My grandad has dementia - although he's still quite fit and healthy for a man in his 90's - and he used to run back in the day, I remember seeing his medals when I was a kid.

It was my first half marathon. I'm sporty myself but had been doing primarily lifting in the gym and powerlifting competitions, and not much cardio, so it was a new fitness challenge. It was a lot of fun although challenging, but that's what I was looking for.

Cardiff is a city I've lived in for a few different periods of my life so I'm familiar with it and have a real fondness for it, and they definitely picked the most scenic landmarks for the event. The crowd was so supportive.

I now have an itch to challenge myself further with marathons and even ultra-marathons. It holds me accountable and gives me a sense of meaning and achievement. BRACE were very helpful and supportive along the way."
