This is Why We Fight

Update - 26/08/2025:

The Why We Fight appeal has raised enough to fund 402 hours of dementia research!

Where are these hours being used?

BRACE is funding research into:

  • promising gene therapies
  • brand-new drugs that could slow or even stop damage to the brain, with more success than those in the news recently
  • the link between deafness and dementia
  • how inflammation from gum disease might affect the brain
  • the role of the hunger hormone in memory processes

This research is across all types of dementia - Alzheimer’s, vascular, FTD, early-onset, mixed, and even into linked conditions like Parkinson’s and Huntington’s.

We’ve come incredibly close to our Why We Fight appeal goal. And while the appeal is closing—it’s not too late to ask friends and family to support research too. Every extra donation means more hours, more breakthroughs, and more hope.

Thank you for being here.

The Why We Fight campaign is gathering powerful dementia stories from people like you, and raising urgent awareness and funds for more research.

It’s about the millions of us who see ourselves reflected in these stories, and the 1 in 3 people born in the UK today who will develop dementia in their life time.

We are fighting back against dementia. Find out how you can join the fight below.

We know that the stories shared here may feel painfully familiar. But there is hope… A message from BRACE CEO, Chris Williams.
