“For the last decade of her life, dementia was a shadow that stole her memories and altered her world. It was heartbreaking to witness her change in demeanour with all the visible distressing things going on inside her mind, but despite this, Granny always stayed positive. With a good old sing song and a good “hokey cokey” even in her latest days, she never forgot how to enjoy herself and bring a smile to others.

As a Biomedical Student and part-time healthcare assistant working in the NHS, I see first-hand the impact of dementia every day. In my role at a psychiatric hospital, I care for elderly patients, many of whom are living with dementia. This experience has been eye-opening and has deepened my understanding and compassion for those affected by this condition. It has also reinforced my commitment to supporting research and treatments that could make a difference in their lives.”
