Former BBC journalist Ali Vowles has joined forces with Bristol charity BRACE Dementia Research to become their latest ambassador.

This partnership is personal for Ali as her late mum spent the last few years of her life living with dementia. One in three people born today will develop dementia in their lifetime; meaningful treatments are urgently needed for families like Ali’s.

BRACE fund research into the causes, early diagnosis and development of treatments into Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia in the South West of England and South Wales.

Recent breakthroughs from the charity include a portable early dementia test, which is being investigated by the NHS for possible use, and a potential Alzheimer’s gene therapy amongst others.

Over the years, Ali has supported the charity in various ways, from fundraising to hosting their conferences and events.

Ali Vowles, says:

"Becoming an Ambassador for BRACE feels like a particularly good fit and a very personal one.

Having known the charity for some time, both personally and professionally, I’ve always been impressed by what it is trying to achieve. Dementia is something that has touched my family very personally, so supporting research into dementia and Alzheimer’s is incredibly important to me.”

Liberty Harrison, CEO of BRACE Dementia Research, adds:

"We are delighted to welcome Ali on board as an ambassador for BRACE. She has already done so much for the charity, and we look forward to seeing what else we can achieve together, in support of dementia research.”
