Join BRACE for a Cuppa for a Cure event at the Alive Dementia-friendly Allotments, this Dementia Action Week, and help raise money for vital dementia research. There will be refreshments and cakes for you to enjoy on the day, as well as a plant sale. There will also be the chance for a tour of the allotment and gardening activities. We hope to see you there!

Organised and supported by Alive:

“Alive has been running gardening sessions for older people and people with dementia for over ten years and has seen first-hand the positive impact gardening can have on a person’s mental and physical health.

While at the allotment, participants can do activities set out by one of our horticultural therapy experts or enjoy good company and being outside surrounded by nature and birdsong. Trained volunteers will be on hand to assist if required and to help create a welcoming atmosphere.

The allotments are fully accessible. There is a shelter for when the elements are against us, and loos onsite. At the end of every session, there will be a chance to reflect on what we’ve achieved, make plans for future projects and, most importantly, drink tea!”

This ever-growing festival of running is now a major event in the Scottish sporting calendar. Starting in Edinburgh, the course heads out through East Lothian offering stunning views and an unforgettable running experience.

The marathon route is one of the fastest in the UK making that elusive personal best a distinct possibility! Edinburgh Marathon joined the world’s elite road races in 2012 by becoming the first marathon in Scotland to be officially recognised by the IAAF, the athletics governing body. The IAAF bronze label puts the race among the top 75 in the world making it a pivotal part of the sporting calendar for runners.

The full weekend of events attracts around 30,000 runners, with thousands more lining the course to support. There are 9 races on offer over two days including the marathon, half marathon, team relay, 10k, 5k and junior races. There really is something for everyone, so why not make the most of the Bank Holiday weekend.
