The first person I knew who had alzheimers was Jim, who lived with my wife's aunt. We would see Jim walking the dog most days, and he was always friendly and chatty. The disease got to him slowly but surely and he ended up in a nursing home when it became unsafe for him to be left alone. So very sad to see.
Unfortunately I now know other people affected by dementia, and it is sad for both family and friends when they get to the stage of not even recognising you.
In my small business selling fitness equipment for home use by the over 50's, I realise that staying fit can help delay or even prevent dementia. Regular exercise really does work, and now I am running the 2019 London Marathon to raise money to for BRACE, who need the funds for research into dementia, to find better treatments.
