On 8 October 2016, I will be taking part in the Bear Grylls Survival 10k race to raise funds for Alzheimer’s/Dementia, as well as helping to raise awareness about the charity BRACE.
I know what it feels like to have a close family member suffer from this horrible disease and, I can assure you, it's not pleasant. My lovely nan who passed away in November 2015 was an amazing woman who made my childhood such an amazing and memorable time. I was probably 9 years old when I started to realise that she wasn't herself - she would occasionally call me different names, ask where her wine gums were (she always had a bag of those handy), if we would like a cup of tea (even though she just asked!)

These 'symptoms' continued and sadly deteriorated throughout the rest of her life. I will never forget visiting her in her nursing home when I held her hand for a few minutes and just remember her looking at me. She was so confused and her eyes looked so scared but she still held a smile and that gave me hope that she remembered me. It gave me hope that one day there will be a cure for this disease, and that's why I'm doing this challenge, to raise as much awareness and money as I possibly can.
Dementia effects over 40,000 people are under 65 years old and, with the combined government and charity investment in dementia research being 6.4 times lower than cancer research, we need to raise as much money and awareness as possible.

So could you please donate to my page as we WILL beat Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Every donation helps!

THANKS
Michael (18 years old)
