Congratulations to Susan Marshfield and other volunteers who organised a highly successful event built round a performance of the Japanese tea ceremony. They raised a brilliant £532.10. We are indebted to BRACE speaker Isobel Gelder for a report on the afternoon’s activities:

'Honorary President of BRACE, Susan Marshfield invited three Japanese tea experts from London to demonstrate the Japanese Tea Ceremony. It was a first for most guests watching.

The Masonic Hall in Bristol was a beautiful room to entertain over 60 people for afternoon tea. Before the tea party began, we were given a fascinating tour of the facilities and with a history of the building, and of the Masonic movement.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, informing us that the Hall had been bombed during the War, but has been restored to its former glory.

The Japanese Tea Ceremony was meticulously demonstrated, with some guests sampling the tea, and others being invited to ask questions about Japanese tea ceremonies and Japanese culture. We were then given the most delicious sandwiches, scones, cream and jam including a wonderful selection of cakes.

Looking around the room it was clear that everyone had thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon!

Well done to Susan and BRACE team.'
