Dementia: Hope for the Future
A mini-conference for organisations and individuals working or living with dementia. All are welcome.
The purpose is to bring together charities, campaigners, carers, businesses and others with a special interest in dementia. Our aim is to encourage dialogue and mutual learning between people with very different perspectives on the condition. BRACE funds medical research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of dementia, and some of the scientists and clinicians who work with us will be there. So, too, will people whose focus is the provision of care, providing information or pushing for changes in policy. Some activities will be led by people who are themselves living with dementia.
The former ITN and BBC news presenter Martyn Lewis will be joining us to help lead the event. One of our speakers will be Beth Britton, a blogger and campaigner who has rocketed to national attention and who was invited to address the G8 dementia summit last December.
Dr Liz Coulthard (University of Bristol) will then talk about current dementia research and Downend GP Dr Peter Bagshaw will provide a GP's perspective.
For the final hour, our three speakers will be joined by Hilary Doxford and Tony Hall on the panel for "Question Time", chaired by Martyn Lewis.
As well as these four sessions, there will be ample opportunity for networking, including among the information stands around the perimeter of the room.
Tea and coffee will be provided and the hotel will run a lunchtime sandwich bar where lunch can be purchased.
Parking will be free for participants in the adjacent Cabot Circus multi-storey car park, for which purpose the hotel reception will frank your parking tickets when you leave. Access by rail or bus is easy, with Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Bus Station a 10 minute walk or short taxi ride away.
This is a special opportunity to discuss dementia with a wide range of individuals and organisations and to hear from people with expertise in different areas.
The event is free but it is essential to book online in advance.
We are very grateful to the James Tudor Foundation for sponsoring this event.
