Thornbury Volunteers Needed!

The charity wants to raise awareness of dementia and the exciting scientific research that is happening around the world. Some of the leading research is based here in the West Country, carried out by teams in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath, where BRACE has invested funds over many years.

Although dementia is not a natural part of ageing, the risk is greater in old age, with about 20% of people over 80 thought to be affected. With more elderly people than ever before, the numbers with some form of dementia are increasing, and it is critically important that the general public is aware of what this means for society as a whole.

Scientific research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of dementia has made great progress in recent years. There is still no cure for dementia, but the hope that we will beat it is real and based on sound science.

BRACE Chief Executive Mark Poarch said,"What we are looking for is people who want to join a circle of supporters in Thornbury, to find out about what is happening and, if they have the time, help us to raise awareness or raise funds. We want supporters’ groups set up on a local basis in communities around the area. Thornbury, with its strong sense of community and its tradition of getting involved, would be an ideal place for such a group".
