BRACE Autumn Fair
Ken Hames, a former Royal Marine and Special Forces officer turned TV presenter, motivational speaker and Director of local training company Farscape Development, opened the BRACE autumn fair on Saturday 24th October at Newman Hall, Grange Court Road, Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol.
Ken Hames, Bristol-based presenter of “Beyond Boundaries” and “Mission Africa” for the BBC, is a former soldier who now devotes much of his considerable energy to charity work. Ken’s CV includes the Falklands War and acting as a prison guard for former top Nazi Rudolf Hesse in Spandau Prison. He has also represented Britain in cross-country skiing and and played Rugby for the Army and Combined Services.
The organisation of this year's fair was co-ordinated this year by Marlon Kistensamy, a volunteer for the charity who grew up in Durban, South Africa. Marlon said, “We had a great fair with stalls selling such things as quality new and used goods, toys, cakes, books, plants and refreshments were also available.
The fair raised the magnificent sum of £1795 for BRACE funds. We are grateful to all the volunteers who turned out to help on the day and many thanks to all those who came along and spent their money on the stalls, helping us to raise funds towards the vital research projects that BRACE supports.
